The Sahasra Deepika Institute Celebrates its 8th Anniversary

The Sahasra Deepika Institute for Education is proudly entering 2007 stronger than ever, thanks to the support of so many generous people in the United States and India. In 1998, SDI opened with 12 children. We currently have 56 children ages 4-12 living and learning at Sahasra Deepika.  Our anniversary celebration held on August 17th, 2006, included a talent show by the children, speeches by SDI trustees and friends, awards to teachers and staff, and visit by the state education minister Mr. Ramalinga Reddy.

The past year has been very busy for the students, staff, and trustees.  We have opened the newly constructed girls dormitory and expanded classroom space. Students also have new uniforms courtesy of a generous donor.

A member of our development committee in India, who is also a nutritionist, helps monitor the childrens’ diets. They work with the cook to plan healthy meals for the children. A volleyball court was built in front of the school. This, in addition to the playground facility, has added to the recreation available to the children.
