Organization of Sahasra Deepika: SDFE <---> SDI <---> SDIE
The Sahasra Deepika Foundation for Education, InC (SDFE) is based in the United States and coordinates fundraising and membership activity for the US. The Sahasra Deepika Foundation for Education Inc., is a 501© (3) tax-exempt organization. The Employer Identification number is 55-9754749. The Board of Directors of SDFE include a diverse group of concerned community members, united in their hope to contribute to the children of the SDI. The Sahasra Deepika International for Education (SDIE) is the the partner trust in India which coordinates fundraising, membership and educational activities in India. The Board of Trustees of the SDIE are instrumental in overseeing operations in India at the SDI. The SDFE and SDIE together support the Sahasra Deepika Instiute for Education (SDI). SDI is the name of the residential school where the children of Sahasra Deepika live and learn. The SDI campus is located in a rural setting on 4 acres of land containing fruit trees and surrounded by orchards. The school complex is situated close to the village of Sakalavara, about 20 km from the major Indian city of Bangalore. The trustees and office bearers of the SDIE handle the day-to-day management of the SDI. The main building has been designed to accommodate 1000 children with five classrooms and separate boys and girls sleeping areas. At present there are 56 children at SDI under the care of housemothers who stay with them. The children are raised in a positive environment with individual attention. Their English-medium curriculum is one focused on scholarship as well as character and good citizenship. The founders donated the land and the initial building for the establishment of the SDI campus.
